In Barnet over 125,000 people have received the first dose of the COVID vaccination. This has exceeded the national target and meant that all residents in care homes for older adults, everyone over 70, frontline health and social care workers and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals have been offered treatment. 

The Prime Minister’s next target is that everyone over 50 and all individuals aged over 16 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality will be be offered the first dose of vaccine by 15th April. 

Matthew said: "While it is not obligatory to have the vaccine, I am encouraging all my constituents to protect themselves against the virus. I have now received the vaccine myself and strongly urge others who are eligible to do the same." 

Matthew has also met virtually with the Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi (pictured above) to ensure that local vaccination centres have enough supplies to vaccinate everyone in the eligible cohorts. In addition, he took the opportunity to ask the Minister what the Government is doing to help other countries such as Somaliland and Afghanistan to obtain vaccination supplies for their people. Matthew said: "This is an issue that has been raised with me by constituents who have friends and families in these countries."
