Following his election victory in the Hendon constituency - where he achieved his largest ever majority and a record number of votes - Matthew has wasted no time getting back to work on behalf of his constituents.

Hours after the result came in Friday morning, Matthew was back on the streets visiting the Islamic Community Centre in Edgware. Saturday saw visits to synagogues in Hendon and on Sunday Matthew attend a thank-you party for supporters before attending the Trinity Church Carol Service in Colindale and the Salvation Army Carol Service at Middlesex University in Hendon. Today, after administration work, Matthew will be attending an event with a High Commissioner of a Commonwealth country.

Matthew said “This is going to be a busy week and I am delighted that we can now start focusing on issues that people are concerned about - more police on the streets, focussed investment in the NHS and investing in our children’s education.

“The sense of relief amongst all of the constituents that I have spoken to since Friday morning is palpable. A sense of relief that a Marxist government did not come anywhere near No10, that an anti-Semitic Labour Party did not get anywhere near power and that the only local candidate in the Hendon constituency was elected. In this election it was not me or the Conservative Party who won but the constituents of Hendon. And I’ve checked Ebay - the NHS is not - and will never be - for sale.

“This week I am anticipating a vote on the Withdrawal Agreement and we have to fit in a Queen’s Speech.

“Away from Westminster I will be visiting at least two locations in the constituency to view some environmental problems and hopefully I will find time to attend other carol services. I also have to decide the winners of my Chanukah and Christmas card competitions and award the winners prizes.

“This activity will take me right up to Christmas Eve when I can assure many people who have been asking, that I will take the day off.”

As Parliament has now dissolved, I want to say that it has been the honour of my life to serve as your Member of Parliament for the last 14 years. I thank my constituents in Hendon for electing me on four occasions.
