The coronavirus pandemic and the second lockdown have not prevented Matthew from laying a wreath at the Hendon War Memorial.

Whilst the lockdown has prevented public services occurring across the country, including in Hendon, Matthew was able to commemorate the event in the days before the lockdown by attending his local war memorial. The main civic Remembrance Service is traditionally held by Barnet Council at the same location each year when the Mayor of Barnet lays a wreath accompanied by a civic parade, the Salvation Army Band and members of the public. This year has been very different.

Matthew said: “The pandemic has deprived us all of many events that we have taken for granted but I was determined that I would mark the sacrifices made by others in the past.

"The Remembrance Service is a valued event in Barnet’s civic calendar and I was pleased to be able to commemorate the occasion, even in a private capacity. Whilst everybody may not be able to attend the Memorial, we can all hold a two minute silence at 11am on Wednesday 11th November this year”.
